Why Your Store Needs to Prepare for Agentic Commerce
Picture a shopper in Calgary typing into Gemini: “waterproof winter boots, women’s size 8, under $200, delivered by Friday.” No ten open tabs. The assistant checks sizes, prices, stock and delivery times, then suggests a few options. If your boots have no size data, or your stock feed is a day old, you’re less likely to be one of them. Google has also started direct buying in AI Mode and Gemini through the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), and in November 2026 expanded direct checkout to Canadian shoppers, starting with selected retailers, after its U.S. launch. Preparing your store now can help you:

Give AI shopping tools accurate, complete product information.

Improve your chances of appearing in AI shopping results.

Prepare for direct buying in Google AI Mode and Gemini.

Learn what works early, while competitors wait.

Stay the merchant of record and keep your customers.

Improve Google Shopping and your own site search too.
What Does Agentic Commerce Readiness Actually Do for You?

Makes Products Readable
AI shopping platforms can use your product pages, structured data and product feeds, and they take details literally. If “waterproof” isn’t in your attributes, your products may be harder to match to relevant searches. We make that information accurate and consistent everywhere, using your verified data, so each product says exactly what it is.

Opens New Sales Channels
Shopping is no longer limited to traditional search results. Google AI Mode, the Gemini app and ChatGPT pull products from websites, Shopify Catalog and approved merchant feeds. Joining the right programs gives your catalogue a better chance of reaching people close to buying.

Keeps You in Control
Agentic commerce protocols are designed so you stay the merchant of record. You set which products agents can sell, how they’re described and how orders are fulfilled. We configure those rules carefully, so selling through AI never means giving up your brand, pricing or customer relationships.

Reduces Checkout Friction
When shoppers can buy inside an AI conversation or land on a fast, simple checkout, fewer of them drop off. We review your checkout, payment options and shipping rules so they work cleanly when an agent sends a shopper your way or starts the purchase on their behalf.

Builds Trust Signals
Before recommending a store, an agent weighs what a careful shopper would check: reviews, return windows, shipping times and who runs the business. We review these trust-related details and make sure your policies and store information are clear, consistent and easy to find.

Future-Proofs Your Stack
Nobody knows yet which standard will win. UCP, OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) and Google’s Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) are all moving at once, so we don’t build your store around one standard alone. Clean data and flexible APIs let you adopt each protocol when it opens, without a rebuild.

Monitoring & Optimization
Most merchants we talk to have never seen how AI shopping tools describe their products and how the purchase happens, so that’s where the audit starts. We ask Google AI Mode, Gemini and ChatGPT the questions your buyers ask and note which stores come up. You get three things: a list of catalogue and feed issues, an eligibility check for your platform and country, and an implementation plan ranked by impact and effort. The audit shows you what to fix this month, what can wait and what isn’t available to you yet.

Agentic Commerce Built for Every Business Model

B2C
B2C shoppers increasingly ask AI to find the best option within their budget. Agents favour stores with complete product data, clear prices, live stock and strong reviews. We prepare your catalogue and checkout so your products are easy to recommend and easy to buy when the agent sends a shopper your way.

B2B
B2B buyers are starting to use AI agents to source parts, compare suppliers and reorder supplies. That only works if your catalogue, specs, pricing rules and stock are machine-readable. We connect your ERP and PIM data so agents get accurate answers, and we keep customer-specific pricing and approval rules in place.

D2C
D2C brands rely on their product story, customer experience and repeat relationships. Our team turns your product details, sizing guides, reviews and policies into structured data agents can use, so you're compared fairly against marketplaces. Orders, customers and repeat business stay with you.
Why Brands Choose Kinex for Agentic Commerce?
Agentic commerce is not a switch you can turn on and expect to transform your sales. Much of the work starts with product information, store policies, platform compatibility and checkout. That’s work our team has done for ecommerce stores since 2008, as a Shopify Plus partner since 2018 and a Hyvä Silver Partner on Adobe Commerce. We’ve also tracked UCP and ACP since launch and written guides on both for merchants. So you’ll hear what’s live in Canada and the U.S. today, what’s still on the waitlist, and which steps pay off whichever protocol wins.

FAQs
Agentic commerce is shopping where an AI agent does much of the work for the shopper. Instead of browsing several sites, the shopper asks an assistant such as Gemini or ChatGPT to find a product, and the agent searches, compares, and, on supported platforms, completes the purchase. Regular ecommerce depends on people visiting your website. Agentic commerce depends on AI agents being able to read your product data, prices, stock and policies, then trusting your store enough to recommend it.
UCP is an open standard co-developed by Google and Shopify, announced in January 2026. It lets AI agents connect to a merchant’s catalogue and checkout, so shoppers can buy directly in AI Mode in Google Search and the Gemini app. Google has begun rolling out UCP-powered checkout to selected merchants in the U.S. and Canada, with availability depending on merchant eligibility and integration. Retailers remain the seller of record.UCP also works with other standards, including AP2, Agent2Agent (A2A) and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Both are open standards for AI-led shopping, but they come from different camps. UCP was co-developed by Google and Shopify and powers buying in Google AI Mode and Gemini. ACP, the Agentic Commerce Protocol, came from OpenAI and Stripe and is tied to ChatGPT shopping. The right approach depends on where your customers shop and which integrations your platform supports.
Shoppers can discover and compare products in ChatGPT, and purchases are generally completed on the merchant’s own website or app. Shopping is currently live for users in the U.S. Shopify and Etsy catalogues are already integrated, while other merchants apply through OpenAI’s merchant program. In-chat Instant Checkout is limited to approved partners, so we confirm what is available to you before recommending any integration work.
Shopify co-developed UCP with Google, and its catalogues are already integrated with ChatGPT, which makes it one of the easiest platforms to start with. WooCommerce now offers UCP-related agentic commerce functionality, although merchants still need to complete the relevant shopping-service onboarding and use a supported payment method. Adobe Commerce can be prepared too, but usually needs custom integration through APIs and extensions. Our readiness audit checks what your platform and country support today.
No. Both UCP and ACP are designed so you remain the merchant of record. You control which products agents can sell, your pricing, and how orders are fulfilled and supported. Customer and order details still come to you, so you can handle shipping, returns and follow-up marketing as usual, within the platform’s rules. We set up these controls carefully and check that order data flows correctly into your store, ERP and customer service tools.
The protocols are built with payment security in mind. They use tokenized or delegated payment credentials, so the AI agent never sees or stores the shopper’s full card details. Payments still run through approved payment providers that follow PCI DSS standards, the same rules that apply to your regular checkout. We work with your existing payment provider to check what it supports, and we test every payment flow before launch.
The timeline depends on your platform, catalogue size and the work required. The readiness audit comes first and is the quickest part. Data cleanup and feed fixes take longer on big catalogues with lots of variants. Protocol work depends on platform support and on approval from Google or OpenAI, which sometimes means a waitlist we don’t control. Once the audit is done, you get a realistic timeline for each stage before any work starts.
No, but it changes your website’s job. Agents still read your site, product pages and structured data as sources, so SEO and technical basics carry even more weight. Many shoppers will also still finish the purchase, return an item or reorder on your site. Agentic commerce is a new sales channel that sits on top of your store and SEO, not a substitute for either. For the wider brand side, see our AI SEO services.
Start with your analytics. Visits from ChatGPT, Gemini and other assistants often show up as referral traffic, and many now add tracking tags to their links. We set up reports that group AI sources together, so you can see visits, conversions and revenue from each one. We also run regular checks on how AI assistants describe and recommend your products. This gives you a baseline today and shows whether your readiness work is paying off.
